Mission / Values / Goals Statement

I have had the pleasure and honor of operating our family dealership since May 2000.  One of the first orders of business when my father retired nearly 16 years ago was to put into writing a common goal and purpose for our organization.  Our mission/values/goals statement has been communicated on our website, posted in our dealership and provided to all employees since it was originally scribed nearly 2 decades ago.

Given the nature of this blog, I think it is only fitting to also post this information here as well.  I'd like to think that the following words provides us with a guide, or compass in our day-to-day interaction, not only with our clients, but with suppliers and fellow staff as well.

New Year's Resolution. Restart this Blog.

This is our first blog post in quite a while, and what I hope is the first of many moving forward....so we will see how this New Year's Resolution goes. ;-)

Like the description in the header says, I would really like to use this space to provide our clients, staff, and readers in general some insight into the way our business works.  I wish to include thoughts, rants, and ideas that make the Achilles Mazda of Milton brand truly unique.

I wish to be able to introduce thoughts and concepts about the way I believe the industry should operate, and I ultimately want answer the question "why"....why does this business operate in the fashion that it does and why should you do business with me.  

I want this to be your window to our soul....for you to see how we think and feel about your needs and interactions with us.

Getting too deep?  Perhaps.  But stay tuned as there will be more to come.

The Little Things

So here is the deal...
At my dealership, we do not have caller ID and do not employ voice mail.
I don't like it when people hide behind this technology to avoid people and/or situations. Therefore, I refuse to use it myself and will not allow my staff to use it either.
There. Antiquated?  No.
Real?  Yes.
Just a small thing that I believe makes us just a little different.

Maintenance...why you need to do it.

In the current world of 6, 7, 8 year financing, maintenance of your vehicle is of utmost importance.

My common saying is that as soon as you loose interest in your vehicle, it will loose interest in you too.  We see it so often day-to-day where clients have signed up for a long term loan, only to be faced with a huge service bill due to lack of routine maintenance. 

The result?  Client ends up trading in their vehicle and rolling negative equity into a new car to defer the issue...financing a new car for as long or longer in order to keep the payments affordable.  The ultimate result?  The client will likely be a creature of habit and end up in the same position again, but only worse as they are still paying for a portion of their last vehicle.

It doesn't need to be so.

Vehicles today have such a light maintenance requirement, and combined with such strong warranty options out there that operating today's vehicle should be low-cost + easy.
  • No Timing Belts
  • Long service intervals
  • Small maintenance requirement
  • Long life fluids
  • Long life spark plugs
...and when the time comes to replace some of these items, the manufacturers are very conscious of the cost of replacement parts.  It is in their best interest to keep your maintenance costs low as well in order to attract your future business.

My Recommendation

Take your vehicle back to the dealer, and follow the recommended service requirements.  They are recommended by the manufacturer for a reason.  Your interval costs may be slightly higher, but trust me when I say that this will save you huge $$$ in the long run.

Your corner mechanic or generic lube or repair shop may seem like a low cost solution...but only your dealer will provide you with genuine parts and recommend the right items at the right time. 

All we see here is Mazdas.  Our factory trained staff can determine if your vehicle is performing at its highest level much easier than someone who sees all makes and models all day.  My staff can isolate noises and issues as they have constant basis for comparison.

Why is this important?

It goes back to your ownership period.  You want your car to last....you've committed to the loan for a long time so you need to do what you can to ensure it you operate for as long as you can with as few dollars as possible.  Regular maintenance is the right answer.
